Isis and the Seven Scorpions | Ancient Egypt

Updated: Aug 10, 2021

Hello history geeks, thank you for coming by.

This myth is one of my personal's favorite Ancient Egyptian myths. It tells the story of Isis, who came up with an idea on how to hide her infant baby, Horus from Osiris as he was planning to murder him.

She went to look for a hiding site with a disguise as an old woman accompanied by seven scorpions (which were granted by Serket as protection). As she went along with her idea, she encountered a wealthy lady who owned an enormous mansion. However, this lady happened to be rude to Isis when she slammed the door on her as she sought food.

Gods/Goddess who are involved in this myth:

Isis - Goddess of Wisdom

Horus - God of the Sky

Seth - God of Chaos

Osiris - God of the Underworld

Serket - Goddess of Venomous Animals

I think that the best way to deliver this myth is by watching a video I found on youtube by Ted-Ed, this video is surprisingly clear, super easy to understand along with its creative visual representations. The video is attached below.
